Comments: Last week was a bullish one for grain futures, with corn futures surging on continued reports of disappointing early corn yields, continued uncertainty about world wheat supplies and further strength in export sales. Corn futures moved to 15-month highs as technical buying extended gains. Soybean futures followed the grain markets higher, but soybean gains were limited by strong U.S. crop prospects and an absence of fresh Chinese demand. Live cattle futures had a mixed week with lower Plains cash trade weighing on the nearby contract, while deferred months found support from stock market gains. Lean hog futures rebounded on support from their discount to cash and prospects for hog supplies to continue running well below a year ago, limiting seasonal weakness in cash hog prices. Cotton futures continued to surge on support from tight world supply/demand fundamentals and technical buying with nearby futures trading to a 15-year high on the weekly continuation chart.
