Comments: Did the corn and soybean markets see major tops a couple weeks ago or has recent weakness been nothing more than a healthy corrective pullback? Supplies remain tight and there are still several unknowns, but technical evidence of a top is mounting. After a slow start in the eastern and northern portions of the Corn Belt, the 2011 crop is looking better. The western Midwest (especially Iowa) appears to have outstanding yield potential. USDA will update its planted acreage estimates Thursday morning and will also release a quarterly grain stocks report. Because old-crop supplies are unusually tight, the corn market will be particularly interested in the June stocks numbers. Despite serious weather problems in both the southern and northern Plains, Chicago and KC wheat futures have dropped to new 2011 lows. The Texas and southern Georgia cotton crops are in big trouble due to the ongoing drought. The June hog report showed no breeding herd expansion, but for the first time ever more than 10 pigs were weaned per litter for an entire quarter.
