Comments: Last week was a choppy one for grain and soybean futures as position evening due to month-end and the latest Federal Reserve policy meeting offset support from ongoing U.S. crop concerns. Overbought market conditions and increasing demand concerns also limited buying interest especially in the soybean market. Late-week support came from low private crop estimates and a large U.S. corn sale to Mexico. Wheat futures were pressured by indications Russia won't ban grain exports, but bounced back amid conflicting Russian crop estimates and continued dry weather in the U.S. winter wheat areas. Position evening ahead of Friday's USDA Crop Production Report, which will provide the first survey estimates of U.S. corn and soybean output will dominate grain trade the next few days. The livestock complex was mixed last week with live cattle futures holding firm with help from a $3-$4 rise in Plains cash prices and positive economic news. Lean hog futures, however, collapsed on indications the seasonal rise in U.S. hog supplies had started and technical selling. Cotton futures rose to their highest levels in six weeks on support from a weaker U.S. dollar. Click on the Brock logo or call 1-800-558-3431 for more info on our services.
