Comments: Grain and soybean futures had a choppy week, selling off early on Midwest rainfall and demand concerns, but then rebounding to finish only slightly lower amid renewed supply concerns. Pressure on corn prices from poor export demand was offset by reports of lower-than-expected yields in the lower Midwest and strong processor basis bids. Good weekly soybean export sales and a stronger-than-expected July crush supported soybean prices against pressure from improvement in U.S. crop conditions. The soybean market saw little indication of supplies being rationed. Wheat futures found support from speculation Russia would be out of exportable grain supplies by November or December amid aggressive Russian wheat sales. Livestock futures edged higher with live cattle contracts finding support from higher Plains cash trade and shrinking U.S. cattle supplies. Live hog futures were pressured by seasonal hog supply increases, but were supported by their discounts to current cash prices. Cotton futures eased amid an absence of supportive fundamental news and a firm dollar. Click on the Brock logo or call 1-800-558-3431 for more info on our services.
