Comments: Soybean futures surged again amid renewed concerns about production and continued strong demand, especially from China. Low pod counts from an annual Midwest crop tour helped spur production concerns. Concerns Delta soybean fields could be damaged by Tropical Storm Isaac were also supportive late in the week. Grain futures could not follow soybeans higher with corn prices feeling pressure from increasing harvest activity and slow export demand, which fueled continued speculation prices were already high enough to ration supplies. Wheat futures stuck close to corn futures, coming under some pressure from a sluggish U.S. export pace and badly needed rains in the U.S. HRW wheat belt. Livestock futures were weak with lean hog futures under rising from rising hog supplies and declining wholesale pork prices. Live cattle futures retreated amid expectations for seasonal weakness in wholesale beef prices. Cotton futures rallied on support from a weak U.S. dollar, but ample world stocks kept a lid on gains.
