Comments: Grain and soybean futures traders spent the first half of last week focused on Wednesday's USDA crop production and supply/demand reports, before monetary easing by the U.S. Federal Reserve provided broad-based support for commodity prices late in the week, weighing heavily on the dollar. That support was not enough to pull corn futures back from earlier losses spurred by, a smaller-than-expected cut in USDA's U.S. corn crop estimate, rising harvest pressure and ongoing demand concerns. Soybean futures held firm as USDA confirmed a very tight U.S. supply situation by lowering its 2012 crop estimate and cutting old-crop ending stocks more than expected. Wheat futures rallied strongly back from early-week losses as the weaker dollar and active buying by Egypt in the world market boosted expectations for U.S. wheat exports. Livestock futures moved higher with live cattle boosted by further strength in Plains cash markets and lean hog contracts boosted by Friday short covering in the wake of the Fed's easing and signs of improved pork demand. Cotton futures were little changed as pressure from large world cotton stocks offset support dollar weakness. Click on the Brock logo or call 1-800-558-3431 for more info on our services.
