Comments: Grain and soybean futures edged higher last week on support from concerns about tight U.S. corn and soybean stocks, with a weaker dollar providing some light support as well. Delays in shipments out of Brazil due to congestion at ports in that country remained a supportive factor for old-crop soybean futures. New-crop corn contracts were supported by ideas U.S. corn acres might not reach previous lofty expectations. Wheat futures were propped up by firm corn prices and indications of good demand in both the export sector and the domestic feed market. The focus in the grain/soybean markets this week will be squarely on Thursday's important USDA Prospective Plantings and Quarterly Grain Stocks reports, which will provide the latest readings on remaining old-crop supplies and 2013 production prospects. Cotton futures were hit hard by speculative selling spurred largely by oversold market conditions and news China and India will release stocks from government reserves. Livestock futures continued to struggle with demand concerns last week as wholesale beef and pork prices softened. Live cattle managed small gains on expectations for tightening supplies, which were confirmed by Friday afternoon's monthly Cattle-on-Feed Report, which pegged February feedlot placements below expectations.
