Comments: Soybean futures were the star of the grain/soybean futures complex last week, rallying to an eight-week high on continued strong demand for U.S. supplies from both exporters and domestic processors. With U.S. soybean export sales commitments at 90% of USDA's 2013-14 export forecast, there is talk USDA will raise that forecast in December. Corn futures were pressured by ideas USDA is underestimating the record U.S. crop and U.S. ending stocks, but finished little changed after finding support from good export demand and strong soybean prices. Wheat futures managed small gains on improved U.S. export sales and light technical buying as they held chart support near their early fall lows. Livestock futures struggled last week with live cattle futures breaking hard on Monday and Tuesday under pressure from speculative long liquidation and expectations for USDA to report a sizeable jump in October feedlot placements over last year. Lean hog futures continued to be pressured by weak cash market fundamentals, but found support from anticipation of a seasonal cash low and uncertainty about 2014 supplies due to a worsening U.S. PED outbreak. Cotton futures fell to new long-term lows under pressure from large world supplies despite a lower crop estimate out of China.
