Comments: Most agricultural commodity markets gained at least a small amount of ground last week as commodity funds remained buyers. Corn and soybean futures edged upward in choppy trade on support from continued strong demand. USDA raised its forecast for 2013/14 U.S. exports by more than 10% in Monday's monthly supply/demand update. Increased farmer selling in the cash limited corn gains. Soybean futures gains were limited by chart resistance and some Chinese cancellations of U.S. soybean cargoes amid increasing Brazilian harvest activity. Wheat futures continued to find support from fund short covering after USDA raised its U.S. wheat export forecast by 50 million bushels on Monday. Livestock futures were strong with live cattle finding support from firmer Plains cash trade and expectations for seasonal strength in wholesale beef prices ahead of the U.S. spring grilling season. Lean hog futures were boosted by strong pork demand, fund technical buying and expectations for hog supplies to be tight relative to packer demand this spring/summer due to PED losses. Cotton futures rose on support from strong export sales and drought concerns, despite indications U.S. cotton acreage will be up more than USDA forecasts.
