Comments: Grain and soybean futures remained under pressure from expectations for large production to mean burdensome supplies this fall amid good growing conditions across the U.S. Midwest and favorable weather forecasts. Large private crop estimates helped push corn futures to new long-term lows despite indications of strong demand. While nearby Aug. soybeans were firm, deferred contracts lost ground following a Monday rally as talk of strong demand waned after Chinese buyers backed away in the export market. Most-active Nov. soybeans ended the week near their July price low. Wheat futures edged lower under pressure from weak corn prices and large U.S. spring wheat crop prospects, despite support from a pick-up in U.S. export sales and crop quality problems in Europe. Large crop in Russia and Ukraine remained a negative market factor. Livestock futures came under pressure from rising demand worries. Sharp Thursday losses in U.S. stock markets helped boost concerns record beef prices are eroding demand. Continued weakness in cash hog/wholesale pork prices weighed on lean hog futures. Cotton futures were pressured by concerns a strengthening U.S. dollar could hurt exports and prospects for larger U.S. and world stocks in 2014/15.
