Comments: Grain and soybean futures generally drifted lower in continued choppy trading last week with corn and soybean contracts pressured by beneficial rains across the Midwest and reports of big yields out of the U.S.
South.
The September soybean contract collapsed amid position evening ahead of its delivery period, falling to the lowest level for a nearby soybean contract in nearly four years.
Deferred soybean futures slid to new contract lows, although they posted more moderate losses.
Grain prices were supported by the heightened conflict in Ukraine, with the wheat market again reacting most strongly.
Worries about possible disruptions to Black Sea region exports offset pressure from the U.S.
spring wheat harvest and poor export demand for U.S.
wheat amid large world supplies.
Livestock futures rallied strongly with lean hog futures boosted by technical buying and ideas wholesale pork prices had fallen far enough to jump start demand.
Live cattle futures were boosted by stronger cash trade in U.S.
Plains markets and prospects for tighter fed cattle supplies this fall.
Cotton futures ended the week little changed as rains in dry U.S.
production areas pressured prices late in the week along with forecasts for a pick-up in India's Monsoon rains this week.
