Comments: Wheat futures tumbled last week, pressured by widespread rainfall across the Plains. Except for parts of the far southwest Plains, virtually all of the central and southern Plains saw abundant rains that largely put to rest fears about drought impacting the hard red winter crop. Spot-month Kansas City futures fell to their lowest level since July 2010. The corn market was subdued, trading a tight range as traders wait to see how the planting season will play out. Soybeans were up on the week. NOPA's March report showed the soybean crush up 5.9% from a year earlier, well above expectations and a record for the month. Cotton futures fell on waning demand in the face of recent price gains, and rice futures tumbled below $10 to their lowest level in nearly five years.

Live cattle futures climbed for much the week but relinquished all of the gains on Friday, amid technical selling and weaker cash cattle prices. Packers have pushed margins back into positive territory as cash prices have fallen while wholesale beef prices have strengthened. Lean hog futures were down on the week as large supplies hang over the market. The ongoing avian influenza outbreak is also hanging over the livestock complex, as poultry import bans could lead to more supply in the U.S. market competing with pork and beef.
