Comments: Grain futures fell to new lows early in the week on favorable U.S.
weather conditions but firmed up after that, with corn ending steady to slightly lower for the week while wheat posted modest gains.
Another week of good planting progress weighed on corn, while wheat was pressured by rainfall up and down the Plains.
Soybean futures posted modest gains but remain in a sideways pattern.
Soybean planting looks to be sluggish compared to corn, as the weather forecast for the Midwest over the next couple weeks is wetter-than-normal.
Export demand for the grain and soy complex is lackluster.
Cotton spent the week on the defensive, sliding on abundant rains in West Texas along with good planting weather across the Delta and southeastern U.S.
Rice futures tumbled to new five-year lows.
In the livestock complex, lean hog futures extended their run, rallying to their highest level in three months on strong cash hog and wholesale pork values.
The pork carcass cutout value gained nearly $6 on the week.
Live cattle futures were also higher, driven by higher wholesale beef prices and solid demand as summer grilling season approaches.
Cash cattle trade emerged late Friday, and was mostly up $1 to $2 in the Plains.
Futures are underpinned by the $10 discount to cash.
