Jun. 21, 2016 BrownfieldAgNews reports: An acre of land at the St. Louis Science Center has been transformed into an exhibit all about agriculture and was opened last Saturday. Corn, soybeans, rice, grapes, fruit trees, lumber, chickens, a combine, and some live cattle are part of the 40 exhibits within the new GROW exhibit at the Science Center. Pamela Braasch, director of education for GROW says it's a way to teach people the science of how food gets to their plates. She explains, "We're right in the heart of St. Louis. So, we're in the city and a lot of folks maybe have never seen a combine or maybe have just seen it in a field. And, so we want them to come in and learn about the technologies and - just really tell the story." Most of the exhibits are interactive and hands-on. Science Center CEO Bert Vescolani says Missouri and Illinois FARMERS and commodity groups had a LOT of input into the GROW exhibit, "And as we met with people who were doing backyard farming through big farms with thousands and thousands of acres, we realized that there was a lot of really intimate, great stories and connections that people just didn't have with their food." The St. Louis Science Center has more than a million visitors a year. Tweet |
