Apr. 10, 2017 Source: Iowa State University Foundation A memorial fund has been created to honor Marcia Zarley Taylor, an award-winning agricultural journalist and Iowa State University alumna who died in February. After graduating summa cum laude with a degree in journalism and agronomy from Iowa State, her byline was soon familiar on the pages of Successful Farming, Farm Journal and Top Producer, at which she became editor-in-chief in 1990. Taylor was executive editor at DTN/The Progressive Farmer until her death. Taylor was a great mentor to agricultural journalists and a leader in the profession. She was a former president of the American Agricultural Editors' Association and was set to become North American Agricultural Journalists Association's new president this spring. Individually, or as leader of reporting teams, she won nearly every award there was for news, feature and editorial writing, including the AAEA Oscar in Agriculture, AAEA Writer of the Year and the NAAJ Glen Cunningham Writer of the Year twice. Iowa State has established the fund to benefit talented young people who may one day follow in her footsteps. Donations to the Marcia Zarley Taylor Memorial Fund in Agricultural Communications can be made online here , or by contacting Bobbi Jo Burkhart, assistant director of development with the Iowa State University Foundation, by calling 515-294-1118 to discuss other ways to contribute.
