IOWA AG SEC'Y SHARES HIS OBSERVATION ON PRES TRUMP'S AG ROUNDTABLE Apr. 26, 2017 Source: Iowa Agriculture Sec'y Bill Northey "I appreciate President Trump hosting this roundtable so early in his administration and I was very encouraged by the conversation that took place. "The President clearly understands the importance to the nation of a strong agriculture sector. It is great news the Secretary Perdue is now in place at USDA and will be strong leader for the administration's efforts to support our farmers, ranchers and rural communities. "There was good conversation during the meeting, particularly around reducing the regulatory burden on farmers, updating our nation's infrastructure, immigration, and trade. During the meeting it was clear the President understood the importance of a legal and reliable workforce to agriculture and is committed to ensuring a workable immigration system for agriculture. "And, on trade my take away is that the President understands how important trade is to agriculture and will not risk undermining the advancements we've made in ag trade as they work with our trading partners to address other concerns. "In my comments during the meeting I highlighted the importance of the ethanol industry, especially to Iowa, and the importance of maintaining a strong Renewable Fuels Standard. The President again shared his support for the ethanol industry and I look forward to continuing to work with the administration to support the renewable fuels industry." Tweet |
