 Aug. 28, 2017 BrownfieldAgNews reports: Recommendations out of Arkansas and Missouri for use of dicamba herbicides in the 2018 season include burn-down only.The Arkansas Dicamba Task Force, Friday, made three preliminary recommendations including this one, "Cut-off date for use of dicamba by April 15th for the 2018 season only. They want to revisit that in 2019," says Adriane Barnes with the Arkansas Department of Agriculture. Dr. Kevin Bradley, University of Missouri weed scientist, tells Brownfield until he sees something different from the EPA or elsewhere, he recommends growers abstain from applying the products later in the season, "My recommendation is we stick with where we know we've used it successfully until we can figure out why sometimes it moves off site and other times it doesn't. And, we've certainly seen that in our own research." Bradley recommends those planting the Xtend trait next year use approved dicamba products for resistant horseweed, ragweed species and winter annuals in pre-plant burndown. He says resistant waterhemp will have to be managed with cover crops and other practices along with an overlapping residual herbicide program. Arkansas Dicamba Task Force recommendations: 1. Cut-off date for use of dicamba of April 15, for the 2018 season. Revisit this cut-off date for 2019 and beyond. 2.Fix the regulations as they are now concerning penalties for violators of dicamba misuse to remove the requirement for proof of damage. Misuse should constitute a violation. 3.Request more independent/university testing before new products come to market (seed and chemical). And - the entire "package" must be ready at once. Tweet |
