HERTZ FARM MANAGEMENT PARTNERS ON UNI'S PRAIRIE ON FARMS DAYS
Source: Hertz Farm Management news release

Hertz Farm Management has partnered with the UNI Tallgrass Prairie Center, Dry Run Creek Watershed Improvement Project, and ISU STRIPS to demonstrate the practical use of prairie on working farms for water quality improvement and pollinator habitat. This will be demonstrated at field days on September 20 in Cedar Falls and September 21 in Dike.

The September 20 field day will feature the installation of an in-field prairie strip in a state-identified watershed at Renewable Farm, 1527 S. Union Rd, Cedar Falls. Participants will learn proper prairie establishment and management techniques for conservation practices utilizing native vegetation, along with information about the Dry Run Creek Watershed Improvement Project. This field day is scheduled from 9 a.m.-noon and includes a complimentary lunch with registration.

The September 21 field day will highlight prairie strip installation along with a saturated buffer at J.H. Roadman Memorial Park near Dike. Proper seed mix design, establishment techniques, and maintenance practices will be discussed. Researchers from Iowa State STRIPS and saturated buffer teams will discuss project results along with water quality benefits provided by these conservation practices. This field day is scheduled from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and includes a complimentary meal with registration.

"We are a proud partner of these events, which aim to increase knowledge of relevant issues, technology and techniques to improve farming practices and advance soil stewardship. This project ties in nicely with our company values," said Morgan Troendle, Farm Manager for Hertz Farm Management.

Field days are free and open to the public. Producers, landowners, farm managers, technical service providers, conservation agencies and professionals, and those interested in learning more about the benefits of prairie on working farms are highly encouraged to attend. Participants planning to attend may register by contacting Ashley Kittle at 319-273-3828 or ashley.kittle@uni.edu.
