AGSAFE AWARDED CDFA CONTRACT FOR FOOD SAFETY MODERNIZATION ACT TRAININGS
Source: AgSafe news release

The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has awarded AgSafe a $192,000 contract to provide Food Safety Modernization Act - Produce Safety Rule (FSMA PSR) grower training. The training, being conducted in partnership with Western Growers, will take place between January and May 2018. A total of 23 classes will be conducted across Northern and Central California, available in English and Spanish.

"It is an honor that CDFA has entrusted AgSafe and Western Growers to provide this essential training to growers across the state" says AgSafe President and CEO, Amy Wolfe. "We look forward to ensuring growers have the knowledge and resources needed to comply with FSMA."

Trainings will comply with the FSMA - PSR, which requires growers to employ at least one individual who has successfully completed the equivalent of this 8-hour course. AgSafe and Western Growers have also developed additional resources to aid fresh produce farmers, packers and handlers in the technical execution of the Produce Safety Rule, beyond what is covered in the standardized curriculum. The supplemental resources address common pitfalls, further explain highly scientific and technical principles, and create samples and tools that could be used to more easily develop PSR-compliant food safety plans.

Dates and locations of trainings, along with an easy online registration process, will be available at the start of the new year.
