IOWA FARM BUREAU PRESIDENT: THIS IS A "FRAGILE" TIME FOR AGRICULTURE
BrownfieldAgNews reports:

The president of Iowa Farm Bureau calls this a very fragile time for agriculture.

Craig Hill says strong crop production years have helped ease the constraint of continued low commodity prices.

"But I think as we look forward, we're concerned about that average year. Because if we have the price levels we have today with an average crop, we're all going to be in the red."

Hill, who farms in central Iowa, tells Brownfield livestock producers remain concerned about foreign animal diseases.

"What if something like that hit the state? What if we would lose the trade opportunities that we have? And we have a NAFTA renegotiation that would be devastating to the state if something happened there."

He says land prices and uncertainty about the Farm Bill are other vulnerabilities facing farmers going into 2018.
