BASF OPENS NEW $57 MILLION CUCUMBER BREEDING CENTER
Dow Jones reports:

BASF SE (BAS.XE) said Thursday that it has opened a 50 million euro ($57.3 million) breeding center for cucumbers at its Nunhems vegetable-seeds business in the Netherlands.

The new center comprises a 2.5 hectare greenhouse that will house breeding programs for all cucumber varieties, including long, short, snack and pickling cucumbers, BASF said.

BASF recently bought two packages of crop-science assets from Bayer AG (BAYN.XE) for a total of around EUR7.5 billion.
