U OF ILLINOIS SEEKING SENIOR AG COMMUNICATIONS FACULTY MEMBER Nov. 12, 2019 Source: University of Illinois news release Champagne, IL--A senior faculty position in agricultural communications at the University of Illinois is announced within a broadened academic program. The position involves an associate or full professor of agricultural communications within the Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications (ALEC) Program of the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences. The new partnership was formed this year to strengthen opportunity for students and others to study how people interact and learn how to communicate effectively in the special settings and matters involving agriculture. "This senior position offers special potential for qualified candidates," reports David Rosch, Director of the ALEC Program. "They can advance ambitious and promising goals for teaching, research, and service in agricultural journalism and communications within this new collaborative program." Responsibilities include teaching agricultural communications courses, advising students, supporting professional development in this field, carrying out a related agenda of research or creative endeavor, and supporting the academic mission in other ways. Criteria involve strong scholarship or creative work in the discipline, deep appreciation of the land-grant mission, and the role of communications involving food, agriculture, and the environment. Candidates will have strong communications skills and demonstrated effectiveness in applying them, familiarity with agricultural media and methods, careers, personnel, trends, and issues related to agricultural communications in the U.S. and beyond. Candidates able to attain the rank of professor and who possess an exceptional record of scholarship and leadership in agricultural communications may be named to an endowed professorship. The position is provided on a 9-month (academic year) basis, with tenure in a department in the College with interests appropriate for the candidate's area of communications research and creative endeavor. It will reflect 50% teaching and 50% research responsibilities. The position is available August 16, 2020, or as soon as possible after the close of the search. The portal for application is here.
