![]() Nov. 9, 2020 Agri-Pulse reports: WASHINGTON- Agri-Pulse is launching a new five-part series that looks at the problems and potential benefits associated with trying to farm more sustainably, providing an in-depth look at the efforts underway as well as the far-reaching goals ahead. "There is growing evidence that farmers and ranchers are going to be asked to address some of the nation's biggest environmental challenges, including climate change, by major food and beverage companies," says Agri-Pulse Executive Editor Philip Brasher, who is leading this project. "Yet, there are a wide variety of differences in expectations and measurements." The series starts with an in-depth look at the sweeping pledges multinational giants have been making to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in their supply chains. Nearly all the commitments are designed to meet the goals of the Paris accord, and some corporations are even going beyond that. Corporations also are gearing up to lobby on farm bill programs. "In this series, we'll also look at the critical challenge of measuring and verifying environmental improvements; the possibility of compensation for farmers; the role technology may play in addressing environmental challenges; and what U.S. farmers' foreign competitors may or may not have to do," adds Agri-Pulse Editor Sara Wyant. "It's a great way for us to help readers see what's on the horizon and plan accordingly." The editorial series is sponsored by Corteva, National Pork Board, Pivot Bio, United Soybean Board and Zoetis. Additional segments will be posted each week on www.Agri-Pulse.com every Monday.
