Lyle Orwig
HARTLAND, Wisconsin -Today is proclaimed Lyle E. Orwig Day (#LEOday) to honor the recently retired co-founder and chairman of Charleston│Orwig, now re-branded as the 100 percent employee owned C.O.nxt. Marked on the official National Day Calendar, Lyle E. Orwig Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to Orwig's lasting legacy as a strategic communications leader and mentor to young ag communicators.

"We had hoped for an in-person commemoration of Lyle's retirement, but during the pandemic this day of celebration is the best way to involve the entire ag community in honoring him," says Marcy Tessmann, President and CEO of C.O.nxt. "Lyle deserves a whole year of thanks - but one day will have to do."

On Lyle E. Orwig Day, or #LEOday, C.O.nxt invites colleagues, friends and others to celebrate by:

• Sharing memories and tributes to Orwig on social media channels, with the hashtag #LEOday

• Paying it forward by reaching out to a young person with a phone call, email or words of encouragement - just as Orwig has done hundreds of times throughout his career.

Orwig launched his successful career in public relations, advertising and publishing after graduating from the University of Illinois in ag communications. He founded Charleston│Orwig with partner John Charleston in 1992. Orwig guided the agency's growth over a 28-year span, leading strategic communications, branding campaigns, reputation management and corporate social responsibility programs for many agricultural and food companies. Along the way, he gave back to the industry through volunteer board positions and financial support, most recently with a generous endowment to Agricultural Relations Council to fund scholarships for ag communications students.
