NATIONAL BEEF PACKING CO. TO DOUBLE CAPACITY OF ITS TAMA, IA, PLANT Mar. 22, 2021
BrownfieldAgNews reports:
The National Beef Packing Company plans to increase processing capacity in Iowa.
The company acquired the Iowa Premium plant located in Tama in June 2019, which at the time, employed around 800 people and processed around 1,100 head of corn-fed black angus cattle. National Beef will invest more than $100 million to expand the facility increasing harvest capacity to 2,500 head a day.
Iowa Cattleman's Association CEO Matt Deppe says they welcome the opportunity to encourage more competition for Iowa's fed cattle inventory. Deppe says the state is also focused on further developing local processing to bring more homegrown Iowa beef to consumers.
