Agri-Pulse reports:

Washington - The drought is back across much of the west, but in California, it's starting to feel worse than droughts of the past. Some growers are already curtailing production or plowing under crops and ranchers are selling off their cattle herds. Combined with labor struggles and increasingly costly regulatory burdens, concerns are growing about industry consolidation and who will be able to survive in what has long been the nation's largest agricultural state.

Join us in discussing these challenges during the Agri-Pulse Food & Agriculture Policy Summit. This event will focus not only on assessing the current 'state of play,' but allow you to hear from state lawmakers, industry experts, growers, farmers and ranchers who are trying to collaborate, innovate and make climate-smart investments. We'll hear from a San-Francisco-based venture capitalist about where he's willing to invest, a grower who has already moved some of his company's production to Mexico, a panel of beginning farmers and some of the industry's leading CEOs - just to name a few.

"California farmers and ranchers are some of the toughest, most innovative people we know, and they have historically been able to adapt," said Agri-Pulse Editor Sara Wyant. "But we are hearing more folks express concerns about having so many 'cards' stacked against them. Growers hear from people who say they want local food, yet there are more and more incentives to move out of state or to other countries."

This year's theme is, "How Can California Agriculture Remain Competitive? and the event offers a full day of presentations and panel discussions at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento on July 12, 2021. A virtual attendance option is also available.
