St. Louis, MO- The Mid America CropLife Association (MACA) Board of Directors selected twelve college students to participate in the MACA Young Leader Scholarship Program (YLSP).

This is the tenth year for the program, which is designed to expose future agriculturalists to the crop protection industry and potential career opportunities. Recipients receive financial compensation, additional training for finding a job plus the opportunity to network with MACA members. MACA members benefit by developing a talent pool of future industry leaders and through the heightened awareness of MACA within the participating universities.

The recipients' educational focus is agriculture, and all are enrolled at one of the land-grant universities in the MACA region. They have secured a summer internship (2022) related to agriculture, preferably within the crop protection industry. Additionally, the selected recipients will attend the MACA Annual Meeting September 6-8, 2022 and speak about their internship experience and participate in the meeting with MACA members.

The recipients by state/university include:

Colorado - Brittani Meis from Colorado State University has a major in Soil and Crop Sciences with a minor in Chemistry, Global Environmental Sustainability. She hopes to graduate in May 2024. Brittani's internship will be with the CSU State Agroecology Labs.

Illinois - Emma Lagerhausen is attending Southern Illinois University - Carbondale and majoring in Crop, Soil and Environmental Management - Crop Protection Science and plans to graduate in May 2023. Corteva Agriscience will be where she interns.

Indiana - Abby Meier from Purdue University has a double major in Agribusiness and Political Science and intends to graduate in May 2024. She will be a Capitol Hill intern this summer.

Iowa - Nathan Behrends is attending Iowa State University and majoring in Agriculture Studies with a minor in Agronomy. He expects to graduate in May 2023. Behrends is interning with John Deere.

Kansas - Makenna Green from Kansas State University has a major in Agronomy and plans to graduate in May 2023. Her internship is at Frontier Farms.

Michigan - Ethan Gilder is attending Saginaw Valley State University with a major in Business Administration and a minor in Agricultural Studies and Biology. He will graduate in May 2024. This summer he's interning at Endeavor Agriculture and Energy.

Missouri - Luke Triplett is attending the University of Missouri - Columbia with a major in Agricultural Systems Technology and a minor in Plant Science and Agribusiness. His graduation date is May 2023. Triplett will be interning at WinField United this summer.

Nebraska - Sam Wilkins attends the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and is pursuing a major in Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Economics with a minor in Leadership and Entrepreneurship. He plans to graduate in December 2023. His internship will be at Vermeer.

North Dakota - Mindee Boyce from North Dakota State University is majoring in Crop and Weed Sciences with a minor in Agribusiness. She will graduate in December 2022 after her internship this summer at Scheresky Ag Service Inc.

Ohio - Ryanna Tietje from The Ohio State University has a major in Agribusiness and Applied Economics with a minor in Consumer and Family Financial Services. She will graduate in May 2024. This summer her internship is at StoneX.

South Dakota - Emily Matejka attends South Dakota State University and is pursuing a major in Agricultural Communications with a minor in Agronomy. She'll graduate in May 2024. This summer she is interning at Pioneer.

Wisconsin - Mackenzie Hintz attends the University of Wisconsin - Madison where she is majoring in Agronomy and will graduate in December 2022. This summer she's interning with Helena Agri-Enterprises.

After completing their summer internships, the scholarship recipients receive a $2,000 scholarship to assist with their tuition expenses.
