JEAN MERRY NAMED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF AMERICAN SOCIETY OF AGRICULTURAL CONSULTANTS

Menomonee Falls, Wisc. (AgPR) - The American Society of Agricultural Consultants (ASAC) board of directors and the membership of ASAC welcome Jean Merry as their new executive director.

ASAC President Pete Weisenberger, Weisenberger Agricultural Services, LLC, Tyler, Tex., said, "Jean's long track record of professional association management and administrative accomplishments in the ag industry will be a key factor in the ongoing success of ASAC as the premier professional development organization for agricultural consultants."

Merry is the vice-president of Countryside Marketing, Inc., an association management, marketing and PR firm which she and her husband established in 1994. Her ag clients include Capital Agricultural Property Services (CAPS), AgriMacs / Lakeland Realty in Washington, McClintock Land Company in the Mississippi Delta, Allied Grape Growers in California, and now ASAC. She also provides creative services for Countryside, including the annual, 120-page Land Values and Lease Trends Report for the Illinois Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, as well literature design work for political candidates and newsletter services for a non-profit.

Since 2005, Merry has been a member of the International Farm Managers Association (IFMA), which meets biannually, and has given her the opportunity to experience agriculture in such places as Brazil, New Zealand, Ireland, Poland, Tasmania, Scotland and Denmark. She has also been an active member of the Agricultural Relations Council (ARC) since 1990 and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2018.

Growing up on a southeast Wisconsin dairy farm, she's always had a passion for agriculture. After earning a bachelor's degree and teaching English and journalism for a few years, she took on her first ag-related position with Weasler Engineering, Inc., a power drive component manufacturer for the agricultural and off-highway industries. She then completed a master's degree in marketing management and was hired as the first marketing and PR professional for CAPS, an agricultural subsidiary of Prudential.

During her 14 years there, Ray Brownfield, then president of CAPS, stated that her skills with farm print and broadcast media resulted in extensive exposure for the company, and this was instrumental in the company nearly doubling the number of acres managed, and in ag land brokerage growth from zero in 1988 to $200 million annually in 2013.

"During my time at CAPS," Merry says, "I was exposed to nationwide agriculture as I worked with farm managers around the country to promote their services within their regions. Those managers gave me a great education on the industry's many components."

The Merrys currently live and manage their company in the Greater Milwaukee area. They have four children and seven grandchildren, all of whom live out of the area, which affords opportunities for travel. The Merrys have been to all 50 states and more than 60 different countries/principalities, frequently finding opportunities to experience agriculture during their travels.
