Aug. 1, 2024 Source: National Children's Center for Rural & Agricultural Health & Safety A free webinar addressing the challenges faced by migrant and seasonal farmworker children and the role of child labor legislation is scheduled for noon-1 p.m. (Central Time) on Tuesday, August 6, recognized as National Farmworker Appreciation Day in the United States. The webinar, conducted in both English and Spanish, is being presented by the Childhood Agricultural Safety Network. Featured speakers: · Melanie Forti, Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs' Children in the Fields Campaign director and Health and Safety Programs director. · Reid Maki, National Consumers League Child Labor Coalition coordinator and Child Labor Advocacy director. Click Here The Childhood Agricultural Safety Network is facilitated by the National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety, a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)-funded center. The Childhood Agricultural Safety Network is an international coalition of organizations that work together to help keep children safe on the farm. These organizations represent the agricultural community, child injury prevention, minority-serving associations and related industry organizations. Farmworker Appreciation Day acknowledges the contributions that farmworkers make to society and the economy, and their critical role in food production. The day also highlights the evolution of farm labor demographics and the significant contributions of immigrant workers. Farmworker Appreciation Day has its roots in the 1960s and has been recognized on Aug. 6 since 1994. Tweet |
