![]() Oct. 22, 2024 BrownfieldAgNews reports: The USDA's reporting another solid week of corn and soybean harvest progress. That followed another generally dry week in much of the Midwest and Plains. As of Sunday, 65% of the U.S. corn crop has been harvested, compared to the five-year average of 52%, with 98% of the crop mature. 81% of U.S. soybeans are harvested, compared to 67% on average. Mostly dry weather in the Midwest and Plains is having an impact on winter wheat planting, with 73% of the crop sown and 46% emerged, both behind normal. 44% of the cotton crop is harvested, compared to the usual rate of 38%, with 94% of bolls opening, and 37% rated good to excellent, up 3% on the week. 96% of rice is harvested, compared to 92% most years in late October. 64% of sorghum is harvested and 95% of the crop is mature, ahead of the respective typical paces. 23% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are called good to excellent, 1% above a week ago.
