Oct. 29, 2024 BrownfieldAgNews reports: The U.S. corn and soybean harvests are in the home stretch. That followed another week of generally dry weather in much of the Midwest and Plains and while some areas did receive some rain, overall, it wasn't enough to cause significant delays. The USDA says 81% of U.S. corn is harvested as of Sunday, compared to the five-year average of 64%, and 89% of soybeans are harvested, compared to 78% on average. That generally dry weather is having an impact on winter wheat. The USDA's first rating of the season for the winter wheat crop is 38% good to excellent, compared to 47% a year ago, with 80% of the crop planted and 56% emerged, both behind the respective usual paces. 52% of cotton is harvested, compared to 46% normally this time of year, with 97% of bolls opening, and 33% of the crop rated good to excellent, a drop of 4% on the week. 75% of sorghum is harvested, compared to the typical rate of 73%. 19% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, 4% below last week and 13% less than this time last year. The USDA's national crop progress and condition reports run through the end of November. Tweet |
