HIGHLIGHTS FROM HUSKER HARVEST DAYS 2024
Source: Farm Progress news release

GRAND ISLAND, NEB. - Husker Harvest Days concluded its most recent event this September, attracting thousands of attendees with a focus on cattle, crops and community. This year's show continued to emphasize sustainable practices, demonstrated in the exhibits showcased and the event's operations. Cutting-edge solutions, from regenerative agriculture to efficient resource use, provided producers with practical strategies for both environmental and business sustainability.

The educational programming at Husker Harvest Days encouraged attendees to take a holistic approach to operation management. Programs covered a range of topics, from environmental conservation to succession and risk management. Highlights included sessions on key legislation affecting agriculture and "Understanding the Nebraska Nitrogen Reduction Incentive Program," hosted by the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources. These discussions provided valuable insights into regulatory impacts and financial incentives for resource-efficient farming.

Exhibitors at Husker Harvest Days showcased innovations tailored to crop and cattle producers. This year featured a new cover crop plot in partnership with Green Cover, spanning over 19,600 square feet and spotlighting 46 different cover crop varieties. Daily plot walks educated producers on the benefits of cover crops, such as reducing erosion, improving soil health and supporting biodiversity. Technology was another big focus at the 2024 show. Attendees could see autonomous machinery, soil health monitors, and more products designed to maximize productivity and mitigate risks.

Continuing its longstanding partnership with Heartland United Way, Husker Harvest Days organized Central Nebraska's largest food drive, in collaboration with Nebraska FFA chapters. FFA members across the state contributed over 16,466 pounds of food in exchange for show admission. This record-breaking food drive helps support local food pantries and backpack programs, especially during winter months when the demand is highest.

Healthcare also took center stage, addressing the unique needs of rural Americans who often face limited access to medical resources. In continued partnership with Nebraska Cancer Coalition, free screenings and health education were provided at the Health and Safety Tent, including 1,145 blood pressure checks, 485 skin cancer screenings, and 302 PSA blood draws. Of the 86 rural counties in Nebraska, 59 counties had individuals who received skin screenings, highlighting the vital role of this partnership. This year's show also included the Grain Engulfment Awareness trailer from Central Valley Ag, a crucial educational resource on grain bin safety, equipping local fire departments and EMS teams with the skills needed for grain entrapment rescues.

"We are proud of the advancements in sustainability and community support featured at this year's show," said Matt Jungmann, national events director at Farm Progress. "From cutting-edge technology to programs that tackle food security and healthcare disparities, Husker Harvest Days 2024 was a comprehensive event showcasing how the agricultural industry can drive positive change on multiple fronts."

Husker Harvest Days 2025 will be held in Grand Island, Nebraska, from Sept. 9-11, 2025. For more information and updates on next year's show, visit the official website at www.HuskerHarvestDays.com.
