AFBF's Board of Directors approved an amended resolution that would instead end IFB's membership in the federation effective 30 days after conclusion of the pending litigation between IFB and AFBF. "On the eve of depositions, with our team in Chicago preparing to defend our farmer-members, organization, and county Farm Bureaus, we are pleased AFBF's decision gives us the same outcome as the injunctive relief we were seeking," said IFB President Brian Duncan. "We remain confident in our strong legal position which is backed by our settlement agreement. This is a positive step forward in our pursuit of remaining a member of AFBF and continue working together for the common good of our farmer-members." AFBF is seeking to expel IFB from its membership in response to a decision by COUNTRY Financial, an affiliate of IFB, to no longer require its Illinois-based insurance clients purchasing non-farm policies to hold IFB memberships effective Jan. 1. IFB filed a motion for preliminary injunction Nov. 21 to allow IFB and its county Farm Bureaus to continue using the Farm Bureau name in Illinois while the lawsuit moves through the legal system. A hearing is scheduled for next week but is now unlikely given AFBF's recent decision. Tweet |
