By Eric Sfiligoj, CropLife magazine | Willoughby, OH -- Every year for more than a decade now, CropLife IRON magazine and its readers have annually picked the product that everyone agrees represented "the best of the bunch" to receive the coveted "Big I" trophy. For 2024, the winner of this honor was the SS400+ Spinner Spreader from The Salford Group. "This really feels great," said Gavin Held, Product Manager, Commercial Application, accepting the award at the 2025 National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, KY. "A lot of time and effort went into building this machine and I'm very excited to receive this award from CropLife IRON." According to Held, there are several reasons why this model is so special and unique. The SS400+ made its formal market debut at the 2024 Midwest AG Industries Exposition (MAGIE), held back in August 2024. The SS400+ chassis-mounted Spinner Spreader can apply fertilizer up to 120 feet and lime up to 70 feet. The unit features 12-section swath control that is easy to operate and has few moving parts. Users can cover more ground with fewer refills from the high-capacity hopper. The floater model holds 420 cubic feet of fertilizer or 320 cubic feet of lime in a single bin configuration or 377 cubic feet of fertilizer using a dual bin configuration. ISO compatible, the SS400+ features 304 stainless steel bin screens and is chassis compatible with John Deere 800R, Case IH Titan, and RBR Enterprise Vector units.
