![]() Feb. 24, 2025 NCGA leaders say the development is a natural progression for a person who is a standout in her profession. "Krista brings a level of economic insight and expertise to her role that is unmatched," said NCGA CEO Neil Caskey. "She has developed a stellar economic program at NCGA that has been vital in helping corn grower leaders advance their strategic goals. I am eager to see her take this program to the next level." As the nation's capital welcomed a new administration and Congress earlier this year, Caskey noted, Swanson authored a report detailing the types of legislative targets that could make corn growers more competitive, shaping NCGA's legislative agenda in Washington. Swanson also wrote and published articles on the adverse effects Mexico's ban on genetically modified corn from the U.S. would have on both nations. Swanson has authored a variety of reports for NCGA, which can all be found on its website. The new chief economist says she's ready to take on this new leadership role. "For growers, decision-makers and public policymakers to make sound decisions, they need good economic data," Swanson said. "The work we've done over the last few years has established NCGA as an organization that generates thoughtful economic analysis. I look forward to building on that success." Swanson came to NCGA in 2023 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she served as a research specialist for the Gardner Agricultural Policy Program. Her responsibilities there included researching data on economic and policy topics, designing models for projecting future farm income under specific policy scenarios and writing articles for the farmdoc website. She holds a B.A. in crop science and an M.A. in agricultural applied economics from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Tweet |
