![]() May 9, 2025 by Rebekah Jones, Iowa Agriculture Water Alliance Communications Director They give without asking for anything in return Like a bending river through Iowa's farmland, mom carves out a home for her family and fills it with a current of momentum for a bright future. Like healthy soil on a warm June afternoon, mom nourishes crops - her children - who need much tending to grow strong. Mom rises with the sun, shining warmth on her family so they may feel loved. She joins the moon at night, lighting the way in the darkness as her kids navigate the challenges of the world for the first time. Her love is the deep roots of prairie, encouraging the soil to stay in the place it calls home. And like the land, moms ask nothing in return. When she's sick, she takes care of sick kids. When she's tired, she can't cancel soccer practice or dinner. When her pre-teen goes through the "I hate you" phase, she doesn't give up. Instead, she leans in. Yes, moms are strong. But they are not invincible. And neither is Iowa's farmland. Gratitude is also like conservation; it doesn't matter where you start, just start somewhere. This weekend, show mom gratitude - a card, flowers, or simply spend some time together outside. Below are some heartfelt stories written by Iowa moms who are passionate about land and legacy. We hope you enjoy their perspectives. Happy Mother's Day! Tweet |
