USDA REPORTS 73% OF CORN IN GOOD TO EXCELLENT CONDITION, 66% OF SOYBEANS

U.S. crop condition ratings were mixed on the week. Those ratings continue to vary widely by location and by crop, with weather mixed, but generally seen as favorable for development over the past week.

The USDA says 73% of corn is in good to excellent shape, up 3% on the week, with 8% of the crop silking, compared to the five-year average of 6%.

66% of soybeans are good to excellent, unchanged, with 94% emerged, 17% blooming, and 3% at the pod setting stage, all close to normal.

48% of winter wheat is reported as good to excellent, down 1%, and 37% is harvested, compared to 42% on average.

53% of spring wheat is called good to excellent, 1% lower, and 96% has emerged with 38% of the crop headed.

51% of cotton is rated good to excellent, 4% above a week ago, with 95% planted, 40% squaring, and 9% setting bolls.

80% of rice is in good to excellent condition, an increase of 2%, and 19% has headed, ahead of the normal pace.

64% of sorghum falls into the good to excellent category, rising 3%, and 92% planted with 18% emerged, both just behind most years.

43% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are said to be good to excellent, steady with last week.
