EDGE DAIRY FARMER COOPERATIVE COMMENDS U.S., INDONESIA TRADE FRAMEWORK

GREEN BAY, Wis. --Edge Dairy Farmer Cooperative, one of the largest dairy cooperatives in the country based on milk, is encouraged by the trade agreement framework between the United States and Indonesia, announced yesterday afternoon. Indonesia is the seventh-largest export market for U.S. dairy products, purchasing approximately $245 million worth of products in 2024.
While the final deal is yet to be revealed, Edge is pleased to see the framework includes the elimination of tariff barriers on over 99% of U.S. products, including dairy, and commitments to address and prevent barriers to U.S. food and agriculture products in the Indonesian market. Some of those commitments include:
Exempting U.S. food and agricultural products from all of Indonesia's import licensing regimes
Ensuring transparency and fairness with respect to geographical indications (GIs) including meats and cheeses
Recognizing U.S. regulatory oversight, including listing of all U.S. meat, poultry and dairy facilities and accepting certificates issued by U.S. regulatory authorities
"We are encouraged by the trade framework between the U.S. and Indonesia and what it means for dairy farmers," stated Heidi Fischer, Edge board president. "By improving market access in Indonesia, we hope to see a rise in the global demand for U.S. dairy products."
