SOLUTIONS FROM THE LAND ISSUES STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF AN INITIAL FUNDER TED TURNER
Source: Solutions From The Land news release

Washington, DC -- Solutions from the Land (SfL) mourns the passing of Ted Turner--philanthropist, media magnate, and longtime backer of SfL. In 2004, at the invitation of the United Nations Foundation backed by a grant from the Turner Foundation, we brought together a group of catalytic farmer leaders who explored agriculture's role in America's energy future.

That led to the formation of the 25x'25 Renewable Energy Alliance which secured endorsement of nearly 1,000 partners, including 35 governors, 15 state legislatures, 34 U.S. Senators, 70 U.S. Representatives, and the U.S. Congress as a whole, through the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 for the following ambitious goal:

"By 2025, America's farms, forests and ranches would provide 25 percent of the total energy consumed in the United States, while continuing to produce safe, abundant, and affordable food, feed, and fiber."

Over the years, Ted's generous financial contributions funded much of our work, including our Native Pollinators in Agriculture project, our decades long Climate Smart Agriculture work, and the formation of Solutions from the Land in 2014, as a not-for-profit corporation that works to advance land-based solutions to global challenges.

Ted's steadfast and unwavering support for our farmer-rancher-forester led grassroots movement was instrumental in the success we have achieved in shaping the adoption of pragmatic agricultural policies around the world. SfL celebrates Ted's life and extends our condolences to his family and friends.
