Jun. 20, 2007 Source: Monsanto news release Monsanto Company (NYSE: MON) announced today that it has completed its divestitures of the Stoneville and NexGen businesses and will begin combining existing operations with the Delta and Pine Land Company (D&PL). This process will bring together two industry leaders to combine their expertise and resources for the benefit of U.S. cotton producers. "We are very pleased to complete the final steps of this acquisition, which underscores Monsanto's 100 percent focus on agriculture and our strong commitment to U.S. cotton producers," said Kevin Eblen, Delta and Pine Land business lead for Monsanto. Noting that D&PL has nearly 100 years of history in cottonseed production and a rich history in Southern agriculture, Eblen said Monsanto will maintain D&PL operations in Scott, Miss., and Memphis, Tenn. Monsanto's entire Southern business, he said, will be known as Delta and Pine Land, and will include D&PL brands of cotton and soybeans, as well as Monsanto's DEKALB® corn, Asgrow® soybeans and Roundup® brand agricultural herbicides. The Delta and Pine Land business will support Monsanto's seed, biotechnology and chemistry products. Eblen, who will lead the D&PL business, said the acquisition enables Monsanto to better serve producer needs in an increasingly competitive global market. "The combination of Monsanto's advanced breeding and technology tools with D&PL's industry-leading genetics provides the opportunity to deliver next-generation traits in the best seed varieties faster for U.S. cotton producers," he said. "At the same time, we will continue our commitment to broadly license Monsanto seed and trait technologies to our industry partners," Eblen said. Tweet |
