May 24, 2010 Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) reports: "Sustaining Animal Agriculture: Balancing Bioethical, Economic, and Social Issues" symposium Animal agriculture, a major industry in the United States, is rapidly evolving through inputs from diverse sectors. What are the intended and unintended consequences of certification programs and regulations on animal welfare, the structure of agriculture, the economics of animal production, rural demographics, and food security? This type of comprehensive, objective analysis has not been available before.
