THE PASSING OF IVAN JACOBSEN
Rochester (MN) Post-Bulletin reports:

Ivan Jacobsen, age 86, of Olivia, MN, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Clare Bridge in Eden Prairie.

Ivan Robert Jacobsen was born March 19, 1924, on a farm in southwestern Minnesota near Tyler, of second generation Danish parents Erlof and Anna (Petersen) Jacobsen. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and spent one and a half years overseas in the Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Corregidor. Ivan later was transferred to the Naval Cadet Training School until World War II ended.

He then attended Hamline University in St. Paul, where he graduated with a B.A. Degree in June of 1948. He moved to Olivia in 1950 where he and a college friend started an exclusive menswear store. On November 11, 1950, he married Nola Ahlers, and they were blessed with three children.

In July of 1953 he joined Trojan Seed Company as office manager. He later held the positions of Secretary-Treasurer, Executive Vice President, and President, and was half owner of the company when it was sold in 1969.

During his years in the seed business, before retiring in 1980, he had been very active in the American Seed Trade Association, where he served on the Export Marketing Committee and also was appointed a director of the U.S. Feed Grains Council by the ASTA.

Ivan also served as Chairman of the Corn and Sorghum division of the ASTA in the 1977-78 fiscal year and was a past President of the Minnesota Seed Dealers Association.
