Jul. 26, 2010 Source: National Cattlemen's Beef Association news release The National Cattlemen's Beef Association is stepping up its efforts to effectively communicate to its shareholders. As a result, NCBA brought Mike Deering to the team to focus on grassroots advocacy and trade media relations. Forrest Roberts, NCBA CEO, said Deering's understanding of the beef industry on the producer level accompanied by his extensive communications and public relations experience made him the best choice for this newly established position. "We recognized the need to strengthen the way we communicate with our members directly and through trade media initiatives," said Roberts. "This organization is all about representing U.S. cattle producers. We need to engage them on important policy issues because they really can make a difference. I am confident Mike will take this responsibility to heart." Deering grew up on a commercial cattle operation in Northwest Missouri and has been involved in the agricultural industry ever since. He received his associate's degree in agricultural economics from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M; a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri; and obtained a master's degree in agricultural communications form Oklahoma State University. Most recently, Deering was the head of domestic and international communications for the Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Grains Council. He formerly served as the director of promotions for the Oklahoma 4-H Foundation; editor of the Western Livestock Journal; and director of news services for the American Farm Bureau Federation. Deering will be based at NCBA's Washington, D.C., office. Please join us in welcoming Mike Deering to NCBA. Tweet |
