POLL FINDS AGRIBUSINESSES HAVE POSITIVE OUTLOOK Aug. 23, 2010
Source: DTN/The Progressive Farmer news release
The outlook for American agribusiness is upbeat, according to the first DTN/The Progressive Farmer Agribusiness Confidence Index. The index, launched August 23, is designed to measure sentiment in the agribusiness sector.
The initial agribusiness index, calculated by comparing positive and negative survey answers, is 71.0; any score above 50 indicates optimism. The Present Situation Index is 73.5 while the Expectations Index is 69.3.
To compile the index, DTN contacted owners or managers of 100 agribusinesses -- including elevators, ag retailers, livestock companies, food product manufacturers, ag services, bankers, cotton buyers, seed companies -- across 26 states. They were asked about current and future sales of products and services to farmers and ranchers, current and future profitability and overall business prospects for the next 12 months.
