EU APPROVES SYNGENTA'S ACQUISITION OF MONSANTO'S SUNFLOWER SEED BUSINESS Nov. 18, 2010
St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports:
The European Commission has cleared the $160 million sale of Monsanto Co.'s sunflower seed business to Syngenta AG of Switzerland.
Approval is conditional on Syngenta selling Monsanto's sunflower seed operations in Spain and Hungary to ensure the deal won't result in higher prices or hamper development of new varieties, the commission said in a statement on its web site.
The sale, announced in August 2009, combined the two largest sunflower seed suppliers in Europe.
