Jun. 1, 2011 Source: SFP news release The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce's 2011 Small Business of the Year is SFP. The Chamber awarded SFP with the 25th annual "Mr. K" Award - named after the late Ewing Marion Kauffman, founder of Marion Laboratories and former owner of the Kansas City Royals - at its Small Business Celebration Dinner, May 25, 2011, at the Muehlebach Hotel, Kansas City. The annual Chamber event recognizes the importance of small businesses to the local economy and the various ways they represent growth, sustainability, community service and positive employee relations. SFP was selected from more than 1,000 entries for the 2011 award. Past "Mr. K" Award winners include Cerner Corporation, Worth Harley-Davidson and Missouri Bank & Trust Company of Kansas City. J. Larry Sanders, Ph.D., president and CEO of SFP, accepted the award on behalf of the company he founded in 1998. "Kansas City is emerging from the Midwest as a technological hotbed and offers easy access to farmers, as well as being centrally located for customers across the country," Sanders said. "We are proud to call the greater Kansas City area 'home' for SFP and look forward to many more years of successful business and commerce here." SFP's flagship products, AVAIL Phosphorus Fertilizer Enhancer and NutriSphere-N Nitrogen Fertilizer Manager, are designed to be added to a farmer's existing fertilizer to improve availability of the nutrients - one of the first goals Sanders set when he developed the products. "Growing up on a farm, I saw first-hand the need for creating products to help overcome inefficiencies in the soil," Sanders explained. "My goal was to create those products that help today's farmer achieve higher crop yields while - at the same time - preserve the environment." SFP brings these technologies to an international audience including Australia, the Netherlands, Peru, the United Kingdom and Zambia. And to help celebrate its local outreach this summer, SFP will be hosting a launch event for its Fertilizer Efficiency Network (FEN), scheduled for 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at SFP's Leawood-based Park Place offices. SFP's FEN will showcase the latest research and development in fertilizer efficiency and management for growers across the United States. Tweet |
