Jun. 1, 2011 Source: Farm Journal Media news release Brian Harvey Hogue joins Farm Journal Media as Project Director, responsible for managing the marketing and educational activities of the Farm Journal Foundation's Farmers Feeding the World initiative. Hogue was most recently with the J.R. Simplot Company in Boise, Idaho, where he was involved in domestic and international marketing for the company's fertilizer business. Hogue grew up on a farm and ranch in southern Arizona where his family has farmed vegetables, pecans, cotton, alfalfa and small grains. His family also has farming operations in eastern Illinois, where they grow corn and soybeans. Hogue is a former National FFA Vice President and earned an agricultural degree from Texas A&M University. Prior to joining J.R. Simplot Company, Hogue spent time in Washington, D.C., where he served as a staffer in the White House on the National Economic Council as part of the George W. Bush administration's agricultural policy team. During the 2008 Presidential election, Hogue served as the University Director for the McCain/Palin Farm and Ranch Team. In this role, Hogue mobilized more than 30 collegiate groups in a grassroots effort that not only served the campaign well but also helped to fuel the political interests of young producers nationwide. Julie Schmitt joins Professional Farmers of America, a division of Farm Journal Media, as Sales and Marketing Director with responsibility managing all of the newsletter group's subscription and sponsorship activities. She was most recently with Gazette Communications in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she served as Circulation Marketing Manager and Senior Manager of Customer Care. Schmitt's career includes sales and management roles in a number of businesses in eastern Iowa, including her own building supply store.
