CANADIAN GOVERNMENT TO END WHEAT BOARD IN AUGUST 2012
Red River Farm Network reports:

Canadian Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz made a brief visit to the offices of the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB), to inform them of the government's plan to end the CWB's single desk monopoly in August 2012.

CWB Chairman Allen Oberg says Ritz clarified that wheat, durum and barley will be treated on the same timeline.

Ritz says the CWB can survive as strong "optional entity" for marketing grain, but Oberg doubts the CWB would survive with no capital and no grain handling assets.
