NAT'L ASSN OF FARM BROADCASTERS NAMES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) reports:

from Tom Steever, NAFB President

"It's my pleasure to introduce to you the new executive director of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting."

"I think a lot of folks may know me because of being a farm broadcaster," said Tom Brand, who we welcome to the top management role of the Association.

Tom, who's currently the farm director at KFEQ, has a decorated history as a member of the NAFB. He's a Horizon Award winner, a nominee for Farm Broadcaster of the Year and he presided over the Association in 2003. He's still getting used to the idea of this latest change in his career.

"You know, when I came to my first [NAFB] convention in 1990, if someone had said, 'I've seen the crystal ball and you‟re going to be the executive director of NAFB,' I sure wouldn‟t have believed them," he said, after being informed that he was selected to be in that position.

The selection of Tom Brand to be NAFB Executive Director is the result of a process that began months ago. The final determination came following consideration of many resumes leading to an initial round of interviews and an additional round of interviews with the finalists.

The NAFB Board of Directors served as the selection committee. Tom is anxious to begin his new duties, which, incidentally, will be at the new location of the NAFB office in Platte City, Missouri.

"Knowing what I've experienced through NAFB, and really the love and appreciation I have for this Association, looking at its good, rich history and what we've been able to get through and continue to look for in the future, I'm excited about opportunities that are available for farm broadcasters and just spreading information about agriculture to maybe beyond our farm listeners and to the consumer listeners too," said Brand.

In addition to my gratitude for the NAFB board members‟ work on this, I want to thank Gene Millard for stepping in to help facilitate the selection process and also to expedite the move to our new location. The Board has asked him to continue as a consultant during the transition process.

Tom Brand will enter his new position soon. Please join us in welcoming him as the new executive director of the NAFB. We look forward to a long and bright future with Tom.
