NAFB PRESIDENT-ELECT TOM STEEVER'S INTERVIEW WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA FOLLOWING HIS MIDWEST SWING
BrownfieldAgNews reports:

President Obama says the aim of his mission to three Midwestern states this week was to leave the nation's capital, to talk to families and to farmers about the rural economy.

"When we're focused on common sense solutions to problems, a lot of times the answers are going to come from outside of Washington," said President Obama, during an interview with Brownfield following the series of town hall meetings. The President told Brownfield it's not about spending more money; it's about spending more money wisely.

"We want to make sure we're diversifying the rural economy with things like biofuels, wind farms, how can we make sure that we've got rural connectivity through broadband?" said the President. "A lot of the investments that we're making in small businesses specifically focused on rural areas because we think that there's still so much more potential that has not yet been tapped."

The President acknowledged that farmers are doing well financially at the moment although he's quick to add that livestock producers are pinched by high feed and fuel prices.
